We re-did our kitchen. We replaced our match-lighted oven with a modern Maytag one. It works. That is what is most important.

We bought this oven to replace a 35 year old original wall oven. It works great and thw new one fit right into our wall space with very minor adjustments. The only thing that might need improvement is the broiler unit. The rack isn't close enough to the broiler flame and doesn't seem to be directed downward enough.

Attractive, modern design

Easy to use. Heats quickly and lets me know. I am glad there are no dials to break off. However, the control panel becomes too hot after it has reached the desired temperature and it is painful to set the timer.

So when I moved into my house, I found an old "ModernMaid" which must've been at least 25 years old. At first I was afraid to use it and wanted to replace it ASAP, but after a couple of uses, I found that my food was cooked evenly and the capacity of the oven portion was big enough that I could make a good sized turkey in it. A cookie sheet fit nicely, going in wide. Then it stopped working and I searched like crazy for another one just like that. Unfortunately, ModernMaid is no longer in production, and the repairman could not fix it. I needed to find something similar; size was my challenge: my cabinet is 28 inches wide, and therefore, I would be limited to Maytag, as they were the only gas oven maker out there, in black, that would fit for a 28" opening. I desperately wanted to splurge and get an American Range, but the smallest they make is 30", which means that I would have to re-do my whole kitchen just for the oven. Well, I wish I had done just that. My new Maytag, is pretty and black, but the oven itself, the compartment I use the most, is too narrow, so much so that a cookie sheet MUST go in length-wise, because to turn it sideways won't fit, or I need to buy smaller cookie sheets. My old roasting pan, which is quite large, won't fit in the Maytag, but was a perfect fit in the ModernMaid. Maytag made the inside of the oven so small, it's nearly useless. The broiler is large for no reason. The oven as a whole is also shorter than my old ModernMaid. Why? What reason does Maytag have for this? I don't understand how ModernMaid was able with the same amount of opening, to have more internal space for cooking, and Maytag could not. Had I known all of this, I would have definitely opted to just redo my kitchen, and go bigger, since the other options are just not that great. When a pan or dish DOES fit, it cooks nicely, but the lightbulb, doesn't have a protective grate like the ModernMaid did, so be careful to not bump into the bulb, you could break it. Also, the control panel tends to buzz at random times. You would think the Maytag is an old piece of junk, not some new appliance that cost well over $1000.
